Unlike them it has retained much of its originality and is not therefore over commercialised. In consequence it is a more desirable venue for those wanting quietness and relative freedom. It has 2 or 3 village shops, post office, garage, 'takeaway' food shop and cafe and also various licensed premises. In addition its position affords an ideal centre for those wishing to visit the many places and towns of interest in other parts of Cornwall, together with facilities for horse riding, golf, gliding and coarse fishing. The beach is ideal for the family and provides for various activities such as surfing (boards and wet suits can be hired locally), swimming, fishing etc. At low tide it is possible to walk considerable distances along the sands and explore other coves, caves and rock pools which abound in the area. Similar walks are possible along the cliff tops where the full majesty of Cornwall's coastal scenery will be unfolded. Many of these areas are now owned by the National Trust. THE PROPERTIES themselves date from the 19th Century and were associated with Cornish mining. They are situated on the sunny side of the valley, in our own private grounds (where there is adequate parking) and look over the village to the beach below. They comprise of three cottages and two flats, and although varying in size arid shape, have recently been modernised to accommodate present day standards. They are comfortably furnished and equipped with electric cookers, fridges, irons, vacuum cleaners, T.Vs and heating units. Tariffs range from £120 pw in the low season to £400 pw during the peak summer months. Normally bookings are from 12 noon on Saturdays to 10 am the following Saturday. 25% deposit is required when making a definite booking. Linen is not provided and electricIty is paid for by £1 slot meter. HOW TO FIND US Take the St. Agnes/Porthtowan road (B3277) at the Blackwater roundabout (look for a Little Chef Restaurant), turn left at the second crossroads opposite a garage. Carry on past the Victory Inn and the housing estate and on descending the hill take the first turning on your left as you pass the T.V. mast.
